Yemen’s government reports air and ground operations against Houthi positions in five Taiz locations over the past 24 hours, claiming dozens of fighters were killed or wounded. Al Jazeera could not verify the claims; UNICEF says at least 130,000 people have been displaced.
On Saturday, Al Jazeera correspondent Maha Ali reported that government forces said they had taken several areas and higher ground in southern Taiz, including Jabal Bazel. She said the mountaintop puts Houthi supply lines within target range.
UNICEF has verified at least 15 children killed and 14 injured since early September; three children were still reported missing. Overall casualty figures remain unconfirmed, with the rival sides making conflicting claims. OCHA says more than 22 million people need humanitarian assistance and protection, 18.3 million face acute food insecurity, and over 2.2 million children under five are acutely malnourished.
