Kevin Rodriguez, 26, and Samuel Reveron, 25, were arrested on trespass and conspiracy charges after entering a Park Avenue sewer. They told police they were looking for valuables in the drains, according to a court filing. Both pleaded not guilty to trespassing and were released.
Surveillance footage cited in the complaint reportedly showed six people lifting a manhole cover near East 61st Street at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. They emerged around 4 a.m.; two Toyota Corollas headed toward Queens, and police used license-plate reader data to trace the cars to Rodriguez and Reveron, Gothamist reported.
The manhole was near a hotel associated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the U.N. General Assembly. NYPD and federal partners swept the area; ABC7 reported nothing suspicious was found. FOX 5 said there was no evidence supporting speculation of an attack. Police were still seeking another person seen emerging from the sewer and had not linked the pair to other sewer sightings.
