Kamilia Chadli is charged with felony second-degree assault after Diana Gonzalez said Chadli bit a one-inch piece of flesh from her forehead and used racist and homophobic slurs. A hate-crime investigation is under way, but no such charge has been filed.
The alleged attack happened in broad daylight on 18 September as Gonzalez, 36, walked to a convenience store. She told police Chadli threw a food wrapper, then allegedly insulted her, spat on her and pulled her to the ground before biting her. Responding officers said they found a piece of flesh the suspect had spat into a grate. Gonzalez said she will need surgery and expects a permanent scar.
Chadli is detained with bail set at $150,000; her arraignment is scheduled for Monday. The King County prosecutor’s office said a hate-crime charge could still be added if evidence meets the burden required under state law.
