Christine De Anda faces animal-cruelty, grand-theft-of-labor and code-enforcement charges after Los Angeles County officers seized more than 300 animals from her property on March 20. The county says some were malnourished, sick or injured.
The Department of Animal Care and Control said it issued citations and warnings after receiving tips earlier this year; De Anda allegedly ignored them while continuing to take in animals. Officers reported cramped crates amid feces, a dead cat and animals apparently not receiving required medical care. The article says there are 35 charges in all, but the counts it specifies add up to 29.
The animals were taken to the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation for care and recovery. None was available for adoption at the time of the report.
