Trump expects U.S.-Cuba deal and doubts military action will be needed

USA TODAY

President Donald Trump said Sept. 26 he expects the U.S. and Cuba to reach a deal and does not think military action will be needed. He was responding to a question about rumors that U.S. military units had been activated in relation to Cuba.

At the U.N., Trump said Secretary of State Marco Rubio was negotiating with Cuba amid a U.S. pressure campaign against the island that included restricted oil shipments.

Earlier in the week, Trump said at the U.N. General Assembly that his administration was seeking fundamental change in Cuba and pledged the country would fall. Cuba's delegation stood and walked out during his remarks.
