Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” has earned RIAA 11-times-platinum certification, representing at least 11 million U.S. units and his first diamond-level hit. “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” are each nine-times platinum.
The RIAA counts eligible sales and on-demand streams together for digital-single certifications, with 150 qualifying streams equal to one unit; the figure does not mean 11 million copies were bought. “Stitches” had last been publicly recognized at eight-times platinum in 2022.
“Stitches” appeared on Mendes’s 2015 debut album Handwritten, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; he was 16 at the time. The single peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and became his first top-10 hit. The two nine-times-platinum tracks are from Illuminate, whose 10th Anniversary Edition was due Sept. 25. “Mercy” is six-times platinum, and Illuminate is triple platinum, Mendes’s highest-certified U.S. album.
