Mark Harmon appears onscreen in all 10 episodes of “NCIS: Origins” season 3, premiering Oct. 6 on CBS. Present-day Gibbs leaves Alaska over a mystery tied to his 1990s NIS days, while the ’90s story picks up after he and Lala kiss and Randy is kidnapped.
Showrunner David J. North says serialized stories set in 1992 and 1993 will directly affect the present-day plot. Gibbs returns to the NCIS office and reunites with forensic analyst Woody, calling in a favor Woody owes him from the 1990s; North hints the case involves a murder.
North says this season will explain why Gibbs never mentioned Lala, though her ultimate fate remains unclear. Their relationship will continue to develop after the finale kiss, he says, but they will try not to let it affect the team. Randy was kidnapped because he digitized agency files; the premiere shows the team rallying to find him.
