Poland and Romania scrambled fighter jets as Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles overnight, officials said. Both alerts ended after about an hour with no reported airspace violation; Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 161 drones.
Poland's command said its jets responded to Russian strikes using jet-powered drones against targets in western Ukraine. Romania's Defense Ministry said two F-16s responded to an aerial target over Ukrainian territory near the border, northeast of Valkove.
Ukraine's air force said 82 of the 161 drones were jet-powered and that Russia also launched an unspecified number of Banderol cruise missiles. It said air defenses intercepted or suppressed 119 drones and three cruise missiles, with impacts at 18 locations. Kyiv's mayor reported two people killed and 25 injured in the capital.
