An Economist/YouGov poll released Sept. 22 found President Donald Trump’s approval fell five points in a week, to 35%, erasing five weeks of gains. Among likely voters, Democrats lead Republicans by 14 points on the generic congressional ballot ahead of November’s midterms.
The poll surveyed 1,402 registered voters from Sept. 18-21, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. Majorities disapproved of Trump’s handling of the military, immigration, foreign policy and tariffs; tariffs received the lowest approval, at 32%.
A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll released Sept. 21 put Trump’s approval at 32%, down three points from its previous reading and a new low in that survey across both terms. Polling averages reported Sept. 22 also showed more disapproval than approval: RealClearPolitics had 39.5% approval and 58.9% disapproval; the New York Times, 37% and 60%; and Silver Bulletin, 38% and 59.5%.
