A Reddit user said dried, used coffee grounds eliminated the odor in a chest freezer that stopped working while they were away for nine days in August. After bleach, sunlight and baking soda failed, they left the grounds inside for four days, changing them halfway.
The poster said an 80-year-old neighbor suggested the method. Before trying it, they had spent about $40 on sprays and charcoal bags; they later asked their husband to open the freezer without explaining why, and he reportedly asked what he was supposed to smell.
