A fire destroyed the Edison Elks Lodge on Old Post Road early Saturday. Mayor Sam Joshi said firefighters responded at about 5:44 a.m. and no injuries were reported; the cause had not been announced. Lodge secretary Aimee Malave said members are determined to rebuild.
Established in 1973, the lodge is part of the national Elks fraternal organization, which supports charitable causes and veterans. The organization has more than 100 lodges across New Jersey.
The lodge asked members to avoid the building and thanked first responders. Malave said members were devastated and were trusting township and county officials to determine what happened.
