At UFC BJJ 11, Mason Fowler retained the UFC BJJ light heavyweight title after judges scored his co-main-event bout with CJI champion Nick Rodriguez a split draw. Most viewers and UFC commentators scored it 2-1 for Rodriguez.
Fowler took the opening round with rubber-guard and omoplata threats, then a sweep. Rodriguez improved from the second, passing Fowler’s guard and holding top position before attempting an arm triangle. Rodriguez won their first meeting on points in 2024; after the draw, they are technically 1-0-1 against each other.
Nick Rodriguez’s brother Jay also won his UFC BJJ debut, defeating PGF champion Kevin Beuhring with a modified head-and-arm choke, also described as an inverted darce. Jay had predicted he would use the submission.
