Lakers president Rob Pelinka says rookie Cameron Carr was on Luka Doncic’s team in a pickup game, where Doncic looked for him after Carr hit corner threes and made back cuts for lobs. Pelinka praised Carr’s shooting, athleticism, character and eagerness to learn.
During a breakout junior season at Baylor in 2025-26, the 24th overall pick averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 37.4% from three. His 642 points ranked fifth for a single season in Baylor history. He averaged 17.4 points in seven Summer League games.
Carr is competing for minutes in coach JJ Redick’s rotation. Quentin Grimes currently holds the starting small forward role, while Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams are also competing for opportunities. Redick said Carr ranked significantly higher on the Lakers’ draft board than the No. 24 slot where the team selected him, and praised his willingness to play, learn and compete.
