India’s Cockroach Janta Party warns of nationwide protests unless election chief Gyanesh Kumar resigns within 48 hours. The Indian Express reported that two commissioners raised concerns with Kumar at least 14 times in 10 months, mostly over voter-list updates.
The Indian Express identified the commissioners as Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi; neither responded to Reuters’ requests for comment. The Election Commission said differences among commissioners are normal and its actions were lawful, and it denied opposition claims of bias. Opposition parties allege voter lists were manipulated to benefit the BJP, including through deletions without warning and additions without verification.
The Congress Party announced marches at election offices across India on Friday, demanding Kumar’s arrest and removal and an independent review of decisions and voter-list changes made under him.
