Alex Honnold says the foundation he founded will award $11 million in grants this year to about 70 solar projects, working with 115 partners worldwide. He says he has given roughly one-third of his income annually to support solar in remote communities.
Asked about crowded Everest summit days and the risk of a storm, Honnold said climbers make choices and weather forecasts are more sophisticated than in 1996. He also noted that Everest has about 60 routes and said climbers can avoid crowds by choosing other routes or times. He welcomed people having positive experiences in nature but said pollution should be minimized.
