Bob and Martha Pollack opened Snowflake Chocolates in Jericho, Vermont, in 1986, using recipes Bob learned from his father. Four of their daughters and grandson Alex Wintersteen now work at the shop, carrying on a chocolate-making tradition passed through four generations.
Bob learned the craft as a child from his father, a Philadelphia steelworker with a passion for candy-making. The Pollacks began by selling from their home; the business now has a factory store alongside its retail shop.
Their 38-year-old grandson, Alex, began helping at age 5. Bob, 86, remains at the shop every day and works 60 hours a week during its busy season.
