The Simpsons’ Season 38 opens Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c on Fox with Homer chasing British children’s author Constance Clavinger, played by Emma Thompson. Marge booked the reclusive writer for a book fair to help save Springfield Elementary.
Showrunner Matt Selman calls the story a “high-concept movie.” Homer is distracted by a phone game called Bowling Alley Manager, but forms a friendship with Constance marked by affection, fights and betrayal. After a major head injury, he enters a world inspired by classic children’s books, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Make Way for Ducklings.
Colin Jost guest-stars as himself, playing an author of what Selman calls an “idiotic” children’s book. Selman also says the annual Treehouse of Horror XXXVII will feature a stop-motion homage to The Nightmare Before Christmas. Fox renewed the series through Season 40 in spring 2025.
