The Season 22 finale of “Deadliest Catch” honored deckhand Todd Meadows, who died from drowning with probable hypothermia after going overboard from the Aleutian Lady in the Bering Sea during filming. The episode recounted the emergency but did not show the accident.
Lead deckhand Nicolas “Nico” Huerta said Meadows was in a pot trying to get a crab out when the launcher reportedly shifted unexpectedly and went over the rail. The crew recovered Meadows unresponsive after 6 minutes and 26 seconds in the water. Rick Shelford said CPR continued for 20 minutes without movement; he called the Coast Guard, while the vessel was 15 to 16 hours from Dutch Harbor.
Ten weeks later, captains and crews honored Meadows at the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial. The finale closed with an “In Memory Of” dedication.
