Wisconsin cornerback Cai Bates said on Instagram that he tore his ACL in Week 2 and will miss the rest of the season. He was listed as out on the Badgers’ first availability report against Penn State; true freshman Donovan Dunmore may move into the No. 2 spot.
Bates had been Wisconsin’s No. 2 boundary corner behind Javan Robinson, who was taking nearly all the reps there. Jai'mier Scott and Eric Fletcher had rotated at the other corner spot, while Dunmore had already earned special-teams snaps through three weeks.
Bates logged eight snaps in the first two weeks, along with some special-teams work. A transfer from Florida State, he has two years of eligibility remaining after 2026 and will focus on recovery.
