Taiwan’s deputy foreign minister Wu Chih-chung said that, in his understanding, the US made no concessions to China over Taiwan during the three-day Trump-Xi summit. He said he believed Washington would follow through on planned arms sales to the island.
Wu said Taiwan’s government had been in continuous communication with Washington about the summit. He argued that Taiwan’s stability, security, defense capacity and semiconductor industry’s contribution to the global economy serve countries worldwide, and that an excessive Chinese military advantage in the region would undermine peace and stability.
The Trump administration approved an $11 billion arms sale to Taiwan last December. Washington later introduced a subsequent package worth nearly $14 billion.
