The US Supreme Court kept Missouri’s current congressional map for the November 3 midterms, rejecting a GOP-backed redraw that could have altered a Democratic-held district and helped Republicans win seven of the state’s eight US House seats.
The court said Friday that changing the map now would cause “electoral chaos.” The dispute had reached the Supreme Court three times this month after moving through state and federal courts. Missouri lawmakers drew the proposed map last year at President Donald Trump’s behest.
Missouri currently has two Democratic-held and six Republican-held House seats. All 435 House seats and about a third of Senate seats are up in November. Democrats hope to retake the House and Senate, though their path to Senate control is tougher; House control would give them more power to block Trump’s agenda and launch congressional investigations.
