Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham said the team must address discipline after eight penalties for 75 yards in a 20-19 loss to Iowa. Zeke Berry’s unsportsmanlike-conduct flag gave Iowa 15 yards and an automatic first down; Iowa scored a 16-yard walk-off touchdown.
Whittingham said he had not yet watched the game film but called the penalty total excessive, particularly the costly flags on Iowa’s final drive. He said he planned to use repetitive coaching to help players understand the consequences of those mistakes.
Iowa’s Braeden Jackson also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a first-half touchdown.
