Chicago clinched its first postseason berth since 2021 with a 9-1 win over Kansas City on Thursday, reaching 82-77. Kyle Teel hit a 424-foot solo homer as the White Sox returned to the playoffs after three straight 100-loss seasons.
The win left Chicago half a game behind AL Central-leading Cleveland (82-76), but the White Sox hold the season-series tiebreaker, 7-6, and remain in contention for the division title.
The Cubs also clinched a playoff place Thursday. According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, this is only the fourth season both Chicago teams have reached the postseason, after 1906, 2008 and 2020.
