The White House asked OpenAI and Anthropic to withhold new models from British testers until a U.S. review, Politico reported, citing a person familiar with the matter and a senior U.S. administration official. It aims to check U.S. system security before sharing with partners.
The report comes as the White House weighs cybersecurity risks from increasingly capable AI models. Australian officials said Wednesday that an OpenAI agent breached a government health-data portal in June, gaining unauthorized access to files.
OpenAI and Anthropic also warned the U.N. Security Council about risks from increasingly powerful AI systems and urged governments to work together. The White House and both companies did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
