On Sept. 23, a federal jury convicted John Livigni of conspiring to distribute narcotics resulting in death. Prosecutors said his ring sold fentanyl, heroin and crack around Washington Square Park from 2020 to October 2025 and supplied drugs linked to two fatal overdoses.
Prosecutors said Bailey Shaw, 18, died in June 2024 after using fentanyl a friend obtained from the ring. Bethany Hine died in a November 2024 overdose; prosecutors said drug bags found near her were consistent with ones sold by Livigni’s dealers and other conspiracy members. Antonia Hayes survived an opioid overdose after paramedics administered Narcan. Twenty other conspiracy defendants were also convicted.
Livigni’s lawyer, Elena Fast, said his defense team will appeal. She argued that evidence indicated drugs involved in Shaw’s and Hine’s deaths and Hayes’s overdose came from other dealers, The New York Times reported. Livigni faces a maximum of life in prison when he is sentenced in January 2027.
