Villagers said a cobra bit Sanjay, a farmer in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, three times as he tried to catch it. He killed the snake and reportedly tried to bite it; about an hour later, doctors gave him antivenom and glucose and discharged him after his condition stabilized.
Witnesses said Sanjay had been drinking. He refused neighbors’ and relatives’ pleas to seek medical care; the village head eventually took him and his family to CHC Suratganj. Its superintendent, Dr. Rajarshi Tripathi, said people bitten by snakes should go to hospital without delay.
