Stephen Curry said he is not considering retirement after the coming NBA season, citing an urgency to capitalize on the next two years. The Warriors star said he still loves playing, feels he can perform at a high level and has more to accomplish on court.
Curry played 43 games last season after persistent swelling and patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as runner’s knee. After images and videos from his China tour showed him limping, he played down the injury concerns, saying that managing physical issues comes with a long career and substantial mileage.
Curry became eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million extension on August 29, but had not signed one nearly a month later. He said he would decide when he had the information he needed and that not signing would not affect his play. With several contracts set to expire, Golden State could have more than $100 million in cap space next summer; an immediate Curry extension could reduce that flexibility to about $45 million.
