Sylvester Stallone says he became bulimic and used steroids during his 1980s film fame, recalling that his body fat fell to 2.6% while filming “Rocky III.” He says steroid use took a terrible toll and that he is still paying for it decades later.
Stallone said he has had nine back operations, two shoulder operations and three neck fusions, and takes “a lot of pills to keep going.” He said he still wants to stay in shape but, if he could do it over, would leave the stunts to someone else.
The interview was conducted ahead of “I Play Rocky,” a film about the making of the 1976 “Rocky,” with Anthony Ippolito playing Stallone. It is scheduled for select theaters Nov. 6 and nationwide release Nov. 20.
