Carly Rae Jepsen says she doesn't think the upcoming 10 Things I Hate About You musical would have happened without her 2014 Broadway debut in Cinderella. She is writing its music and lyrics with Ethan Gruska; performances are scheduled to begin Aug. 17, 2027.
Jepsen called the show a “dream of all dream projects” on Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast and said she was proud of its creative team. Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang are writing the book; Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph, while Tom Kitt is handling music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations.
The musical is based on the 1999 film starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger and follows sisters Kat and Bianca as they navigate teenage life and relationships. Casting and a Broadway theater have not been announced.
