Los Angeles fired coach Lynne Roberts less than a day after a 76-75 season-ending loss to Golden State, following a 16-28 season and sixth straight playoff miss. Roberts finished her two seasons with a 37-51 record, and fans were split over the move.
Before the finale, Roberts said she believed she had done enough to keep the job for 2027. Her first Sparks team had the WNBA’s best offense among teams that missed the playoffs, but injuries and major roster changes made her second season more difficult. Kelsey Plum averaged 23.9 points in 12 games before a lower-leg injury and was later traded to Phoenix.
The Sparks are entering another reset with new general manager Ariana Andonian. The team will reportedly seek to rebuild around Cameron Brink and two potential lottery picks.
