Sophie Cunningham said Indiana expected to find its rhythm sooner after Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston returned from the World Cup. The Fever beat Toronto, lost to Washington, then fell 66-86 to Minnesota to finish sixth and face Las Vegas in the first playoff round.
Clark and Boston had played for Team USA in Germany, helping it win gold. Cunningham said the Fever felt confident going into Toronto, but the return was “a little rocky,” and called the Washington loss one of the team’s worst games of the season. She said Indiana could learn from the defeat and was glad it came before the playoffs. Had Indiana beaten Minnesota, it would have faced Atlanta in the first round instead of Las Vegas.
