SNL’s Season 52 opener imagines Trump as Zohran Mamdani’s ‘best friend’

SNL’s Season 52 premiere cold open on Sept. 26 mocked President Donald Trump’s “bromance” with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, imagining Trump visiting as Mamdani records a nor’easter safety video and calling him his “best friend.”

Ramy Youssef played Mamdani and James Austin Johnson played Trump. The sketch had Trump say Mamdani appeared in most of his dreams, call him “Mam-dreamy” and compare their friendship to an unlikely animal pairing.

Trump aide Natalie Harp, played by Ashley Padilla, also appeared and threatened Mamdani if he hurt Trump. The sketch’s Trump character joked about barring CNN, MS Now and Politico from the White House press pool, meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping and changing his hair color.
