Ambassador Dorothy Shea cited reports that AI has been used by Iran to target US ships and by other actors attempting to develop bioweapons, saying the US needs a smarter approach that pairs innovation with guardrails.
Speaking with Tony Maciulis at GZERO and Microsoft's inaugural Global Stage Cafe on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Shea also discussed whether the UN is equipped to lead AI governance, the upcoming Trump-Xi meeting and challenges facing Lebanon's armed forces as the UN interim force in Lebanon winds down by year-end.
