Former Manchester City midfielder Rodri says he believes the club is innocent despite a verdict finding it guilty on almost all 115 Premier League financial charges. He said City told players to “be relaxed” because it had done everything correctly.
The possible sanctions have not been decided, and City is expected to appeal. Some media reports have suggested titles could be stripped. Asked about that prospect, Rodri said the team’s achievements could not be taken away and that everything they had won was deserved.
Now a Barcelona player, Rodri made the comments at a press conference ahead of Spain’s Nations League match against England at Wembley. He compared the case with City’s 2020 UEFA ban, saying the club had initially been found guilty before being acquitted; the two-year European football suspension was later overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Premier League first charged City in February 2023 after a four-year investigation.
