The Athletic reported Detroit raised its offer by $10 million in recent days, from $190 million to $200 million; the earlier offer had no options and was fully guaranteed. The reported clause would require Duren to check his weight monthly throughout the year, with the report describing it as an incentive. Duren is reportedly considering a one-year qualifying offer instead.
The Athletic said Detroit communicated concerns about Duren's weight after its Game 7 loss to Cleveland, surprising Duren and his camp. Duren had not previously faced public criticism that his weight affected his play. A resolution remained uncertain as media day and training camp approached.
