An investigation by Pablo Torre and Mother Jones reports that current and former Life Surge employees accuse the faith-based conference company of high-pressure sales to upsell attendees. Tim Tebow is on pace to headline more than 20 of its events this year.
The report says conference admission can cost as little as $20, while attendees are pressured to buy more expensive seminars or classes called SurgeU, priced up to $40,000. People described as victims called the operation a “scam.”
The article also names Magic Johnson and Joe Montana among athletes who have spoken at Life Surge conferences. It says speaker fees for the events could reach $100,000.
