John Lynch said Thursday he thinks 49ers QB Brock Purdy is “just entering” his prime. Against Miami, Purdy went 20-for-22 for 287 yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing score in a 35-13 win; he has five passing TDs and one interception this season.
Lynch called Purdy’s Miami performance “darn near flawless,” citing the team’s game-review grades and saying the offensive line’s protection had been “phenomenal” through the first two weeks. He also said he saw another jump in training camp, especially in Purdy’s aggressive, confident throws. Purdy has 492 passing yards and has completed more than 80% of his passes this season.
On the Built 4 More podcast, Purdy said he and quarterback coach Brian Griese discussed how a quarterback can see about 60% of the time and cannot see the other 40%, making coverage recognition and scheme knowledge important. He contrasted game situations, where defenders can limit what a quarterback sees, with combine throws made without defenders.
