The Broward Sheriff's Office says its preliminary investigation indicates Joanne Baker, 59, shot and killed her husband, retired Pembroke Pines police sergeant John Baker, 62, then shot herself. The couple were found dead at home in Pembroke Pines on Sept. 21.
John retired after a near-fatal on-duty motorcycle crash in 2019, when a car turned in front of him, the Pembroke Pines Police Department said. The crash left him with critical injuries affecting his speech and movement; he later regained limited motor skills with help from his family and medical team. Joanne chronicled his recovery on Facebook and GoFundMe, the Miami Herald reported.
