Pennsylvania reported 55 new measles cases since Wednesday, bringing this year's total to 890 across 39 counties; the outbreak has led to 173 hospitalizations and four state-reported deaths. Fewer than 1% of cases were among vaccinated people.
Lancaster County has the most cases, with 359. Since the outbreak began in late April, state staff have administered more than 5,300 MMR doses at 165 pop-up clinics. State health center staff have given more than 7,900 doses across Pennsylvania this year, and additional clinics are planned.
Pennsylvania reports four measles-associated deaths, but in August the CDC director ordered staff not to include two Pennsylvania deaths in the national tally while the agency reviewed additional information. Health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cast doubt on the deaths, writing on social media that they “may even have been altogether fabricated” for political reasons.
