Beats president Oliver Schusser says the Beats 360 over-ear headphones target active users and support iOS and Android. They offer more than 256 style combinations; replaceable cushions and headbands launch at $9.99, with prices later rising to $49.99 each.
Schusser said the design responds to people wearing over-ear headphones at the gym, pairing breathable materials with a tight grip. Buyers can select from four frames, eight cushions offered in breathable performance knit and UltraPlush, and eight headbands.
Beats chose a chip other than Apple’s proprietary audio chips; Schusser called chip selection a case-by-case decision and said this chip enables personalized Spatial Audio and gives Android users the full feature set. The headphones lack auto-play/pause, Live Translation and Lossless support. Schusser said product features and price points are deliberate choices and that Beats and Apple coexist. He also said Beats will not make cases this year, following two iPhone cycles of case releases. Cables have proved popular, and the company plans more colors; he hinted at further releases without specifying them.
