Indiana held on for a 29-23 home win over Northwestern to reach 3-0 in its Big Ten opener. The Hoosiers never trailed, but the Wildcats scored three straight second-half touchdowns and nearly recovered an onside kick with under a minute left.
Indiana’s offense opened with a turnover on downs, a punt and a field goal, then produced a 90-yard scoring drive to make it 12-0 at halftime. The Hoosiers’ defense shut Northwestern out in the first half and contained its running game.
Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles led three consecutive touchdown drives after the break, despite pressure from Indiana’s defensive front. Indiana answered with touchdown runs by Josh Hoover and Lee Beebe Jr.; Beebe stepped up after Turbo Richard left the game with a first-half injury.
