Mookie Betts is batting .367 for the Dodgers in September, with six homers, 21 RBIs and nine doubles entering Friday. His production has carried the offense while Shohei Ohtani missed most of the month with a right-arm injury.
Betts' 1.117 OPS and 219 wRC+ made September his best month of the season. He also recorded 32 hard-hit balls and a 92.6 mph average exit velocity, his highest of the year. FanGraphs credited him with 25 weighted runs created, the team's most; Teoscar Hernández was next with 19.
Betts' playoff record has varied: he hit .296/.378/.493 with a 135 OPS+ in his first Dodgers season and .319/.377/.404 with a 116 wRC+ in 2021, but struggled in 2022 and 2023, when the Dodgers' seasons ended early. In 2024, he hit .290/.387/.585 with a 151 wRC+. Manager Dave Roberts said he was surprised by the turnaround and credited Betts' work and added strength; after Ohtani returned, Roberts kept Betts leading off against left-handed pitchers.
