Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath disputed Ben Crump’s claim that messages were deleted from Nolan Wells’ phone, saying the cited Snapchat activity involved other users, not access to Wells’ device. She said Crump’s team had not provided contrary evidence.
Crump and a forensic expert hired by his team said they found deleted data and missing Snapchat messages on Wells’ phone. McIlrath said the grand jury report included cellphone downloads, surveillance data, GPS data and a printed report of Wells’ phone. She urged Crump’s team to immediately provide any evidence it has that Wells was murdered.
Wells disappeared July 4 during a boat outing with Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour; his body was found two days later. After hearing testimony from 43 witnesses and reviewing evidence, a grand jury returned a “no true bill,” meaning no charges were filed. The panel said the circumstances were consistent with drowning, but Wells’ official cause and manner of death remain undetermined.
