An Amtrak train fire near Baltimore on Sept. 24 left two people with minor injuries and prompted 25 evacuations. The 189-passenger train resumed its journey after the blaze was extinguished; Amtrak warned of possible delays between Washington and Philadelphia.
The Baltimore County Fire Department said it was called at about 6:30 p.m. local time to the area of Canberra Drive and Waterview Way in Essex, Maryland, where a train car caught fire. Both injuries were minor, and one person declined medical treatment. The cause was not known.
Amtrak said local municipal officials had placed a hold on the tracks, potentially affecting train movements between Washington and Philadelphia. Crews were working with the parties involved to restore normal service.
