Ukrainian hockey defenseman Nazar Stepanyuk was seriously injured in a Russian attack in Kyiv on Sept. 25, the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine said. The HC Dnipro player and youth national-team candidate was in emergency surgery when the federation posted.
The federation did not specify the circumstances of Stepanyuk’s injury or give a later update on his condition. Ukrainian media reported that the wider attack on Kyiv killed at least seven people and wounded 46.
Stepanyuk joined HC Dnipro in August after playing in Kyiv Sokil’s youth program. In his latest Ukrainian Cup game, he scored a goal and an assist in a 9-2 loss to Kremenchuk.
