Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 of 395 seats, the most of any party, according to final results announced Friday by the Interior Ministry. It fell short of a majority and will need to negotiate with other parties to form a coalition government.
The result followed mounting frustration among young people over unemployment and demands for better schools, hospitals and housing. It was the first vote since deadly mass migration attempts to Ceuta in July and Gen Z-led protests last year.
The incoming government will oversee billions of dollars in investment as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup. It will also face pressure over jobs, wages and the cost of living.
