The Brewers beat Philadelphia 5-1 Thursday to reach 100 wins for the first time in franchise history, surpassing their previous record of 97 set last season. At 100-59, Milwaukee has MLB's best record and can still clinch the postseason's top seed and home-field advantage.
Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead on Sal Frelick’s RBI double in the second. After Philadelphia tied it in the third, Jake Bauers, Cooper Pratt and Joey Ortiz each drove in a run in the eighth; Jackson Chourio added his 25th homer in the ninth. Four Brewers pitchers combined for 6⅓ scoreless innings after opener Shane Drohan allowed Philadelphia’s lone run.
The Brewers had been one of seven MLB teams that had never reached 100 wins in a season. The other six were the Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies. Milwaukee has won at least 90 games in five of the past six seasons.
