Milpitas resident Donna Kato says a man posing as an Amazon driver helped two masked burglars break into her home on Sept. 16 while she was away. She said they smashed a sliding door, disabled her modem, taking security devices offline, and stole a safe containing jewelry.
Footage from Kato's Ring camera and a neighbor's camera showed a man in a blue Amazon vest carrying a package and knocking; after he left, two masked people arrived in a car and entered through the backyard gate. Neighbor footage showed them carrying the safe away. It held her mother's heirloom and custom jewelry, including an Omega gold-and-diamond watch and a diamond-and-emerald necklace.
A Milpitas police spokesperson confirmed the burglary but provided no further details. He said burglars try to avoid being identified and recommended alarms and cameras; Kato said the incident showed the vulnerability of security systems that depend on Wi-Fi.
