Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen were arrested on suspicion of murder after New York Times Games engineering director Jonathan McKinsey was shot dead Saturday at a Dublin sports complex. Police said there are no outstanding suspects or known threat to the public.
Records show Zhang and Chen were arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, conspiracy, willfully discharging a firearm with gross negligence and child abuse. They are held without bail and scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in Dublin; the records do not explain the child-abuse allegation. A witness told KPIX-TV that a man shot McKinsey, handed a gun to a woman, and she also shot him; the witness said both wore masks. Police have not confirmed the account or said which suspect, if either, fired. Investigators have not said what led to the shooting.
Alameda County court records show that McKinsey’s wife, Candice Jang, sought a domestic-violence restraining order against him in October 2025, and he sought one against her in December. McKinsey filed for divorce that December, and the couple litigated child custody this year. Separately, he was charged in October 2025 with two misdemeanors involving child endangerment and injury to a child.
