Mike Tindall said on his Sept. 23 podcast that his father, Phil, died last week at 80. Phil, a former Otley Rugby Club captain, was honored with a minute of silence at a match last weekend. Tindall had spoken publicly about his father's long battle with Parkinson's disease.
In 2020, Tindall said his father had been living with Parkinson’s for 17 years and that he had watched his condition deteriorate. Tindall also raised money for Parkinson’s research through Cure Parkinson’s, where he served as a patron.
Phil’s rugby career ended after he broke his leg a week before marrying Tindall’s mother, Linda, in 1969. Tindall said his father had to retire at 27 and was an important influence on his own rugby development.
